Monsters have always been at odds against humans. The existence of the Monster Dimension was a forbidden dimension filled with vile monster energies. Monster energies strengthen the monsters on Earth, making them more aggressive and tougher to manage. It was sealed away in the past millennium. Humans then did what they could to secure their existence against monsters on Earth to date. Humans hunt monsters for food and materials, while monsters still prey on humans.

A global defense force, known as the Imperial, was formed to protect the world and provide assistance in times of need, and to keep monsters under control. And thus, humans try to strike a delicate balance in this natural ecosystem against monsters, while working hard on their own lives...

Gameplay

This game has a free, open scenario. You basically explore the world and do whatever quests you want. It's your own journey!

Estimated gameplay time: 8-15 hours

You will choose from 4 starting characters at the start. Note that this character will be your main character throughout the game and you will not be able to change him or her. He or she will have his or her own storyline on top your journey. For starters, I would recommend choosing Eldred as his early gameplay is a little more guided. If you want to push yourself, choose Lazarus. The 4 starting characters have very different characteristics. The description in-game gives you a rough idea. You will also be able recruit (and expel) other characters as you play the game.

If you want to know more about the in-game basics, talk to the informant. You can find him at any pub in any major town. He is dressed in mafia black and is the only non-playable character who wears sunglasses in the whole game. Similarly, whenever you are lost, just talk to the informant. He will lead you through the major storylines of your main character if your main character is strong enough.

Lastly, always talk to people in town to find out information and trigger quests as your journey! Save your game frequently. You never know when you may get stuck or wiped out. If you complete the game, you are welcome to try out other starting characters. Take on the Cardinal Sentinels as a challenge! Have fun!

Monster Difficulty Tips "Spoiler"

For new players who are stuck in the early game because monsters are growing too strong or you're not getting enough gold, try to recruit a few more characters, preferably a party of 4 to 5 people before you take on quests. Some characters can be recruited straightaway, namely the starting characters and Cassara. You can expel them later on via the pubs.

Regular monsters grow stronger every 5 levels of your main character. Quest bosses grow at every 10 levels of your main character and the difficulty grows by quite a vast amount. If you're training up your characters for the boss, try not to let your main character go past level 10, 20, or 30; otherwise you'd be facing an even tougher boss instead. It will be capped past level 30.

Here are some tips for everyone:
• Be careful with the mysterious portal quest in Baredale as there is NO RETURN upon entering it. Prepare some items, and maybe get some magic spells, for the boss battle.
• Read the descriptions of your equipment. Some confer skills that are extremely helpful for boss battles (eg. Dispeller).
• Some equipment confer resistance to states like instant death. You wouldn't want to put 2 death resistant equipment on the same character. Spread them out among your party so they have a higher chance of survival against monsters and bosses who use Doom.
• If you want that treasure chest in the Lost Forest, you must explore it BEFORE dispelling the abnormal portals. Is it worth trying your luck on those random portals to get to that chest? Yes. :)
• Ember Dynamics (Fire Element Magic) grants evasion to magic attacks. Try casting it if you have trouble against bosses that wipe out your team with hit-all magic spells. The same goes for Shadow Fuse (Dark Element Magic) which grants physical evasion.
• I wonder if anyone actually found the 6th Cardinal Sentinel so far? He has been around since Willistoria was first released. If your level is high enough to meet the Cardinal Sentinels, he will randomly appear in wild areas where there are healing portals. If he doesn't appear the first time, just go out and back in to the place again. Talk to him once, he will disappear. Then keep checking other healing portal places and talk to him two more times. He will eventually ask you to meet somewhere...

Hey there. I played your game sometime ago and I remember enjoying it, so I am replaying it again (I wish I kept my original save file since I never got the chance to finish it, but it's fun to redo it and that means still new things to experience). I still find myself enjoying it just as I did the first time. If anyone is wondering whether the game is worth your time, I would say yes. It seems pretty basic on the surface, but despite that, there's is so much to offer. Freely being able to travel continents and do quests in any order is awesome. You can recruit quite a few different and unique playable characters to your party, and at the start you select 1 of 4 main characters that have their own story. You'll find yourself immersed in this game for hours. Three hours can easily go by without you knowing as you traverse the vast world of Willistoria. Battles can seem a bit frustrating as the world levels up when you do, but it does eventually cap off, and it isn't too frustrating to rage quit. Just enough challenge without being too overwhelming, and the game is pretty beginner friendly with NPCs giving you lots of tips -- which is still useful even if you're seasoned -- since some tips can be a bit more game specific and is a good heads up. I really like the idea of the informant keeping you up to date with the latest in Willistoria so you know where the run into certain events, and so much more of the world opens up when you get airship guy on your team. Overall, from what I have played back then and replaying now, I still love this game and eager to see how it ends! It is pretty simple and to the point, but manages to remain fun with a surprisingly amount to do for what it is. And the free roam concept is just amazing! I don't know if you still make games or visit your Itch account anymore, but know that even after all this time, someone still enjoys this little hidden gem ^^

Hi Tofu, thank you so much for such a detailed review and the kind words. And even replaying it!

Indeed, I intended the game to be open-ended and somewhat challenging enough, and the gameplay style was inspired by SaGa series.

Hope you get to dig out all the game can offer haha

I'm currently not working on any new game, though your words do give me a little spark!

You are very welcome. I am looking forward to discovering more the game has to offer. I play a little bit of the game every day; I love how immersed I feel in this free-roaming world, and it reminds me of the magic and power the RM engine has. I love the free roam concept and the game has inspired me to try my hand at it someday when I find the time. When I've gone far to an ending at some point, I will make a fuller review, but this is really a lovely gem that is just as fun as it was the first time I played it a couple years ago.

Also even if you are not making games at the moment, I am happy to hear my words have inspired you to maybe try your hand at it again. I am sure you will have amazing ideas in store! ^^

So basically, we have to kill monsters to get gold to buy equipment. and we have to level up from the experience gained killing said monsters..... Given how the first boss I encountered has multi attack and can easily wipe out a third of my party hp. I am genuinely terrified how strong it would be if my main had hit level 20. Admittedly, it is only a 3 person party as I was trying to recruit the first additional recruit-able character, a treasure hunter who dies easier than the rest of my party. It does approx 1200 damage in a turn split between 3 1000- 1300 characters. My best healing spell does just under 300 hp healing per turn......... The only way I see this fight being winnable is item spamming and even then odds are bad........This is the easy character? Must be a case of needing more party members because otherwise the difficulty may just make dark souls look easy.

Hey omega, thanks for giving it a shot! I would indeed recommend exploring more towns to recruit more characters and form a 5 member party (keep a lookout for characters you remember from the character selection, they are instantly recruitable)

I played your game on stream and gave some initial first impression. I do want to apologize that I forgot to switch my camera back to my desktop for the first half of my playthrough of the game, so the first half is just a Full HD rendering of my shiny, thinning hairline face. I realize that later.
Anyways, here's the link. Check the timestamps if you just wish to skip to your own game. (I also think I ran across a bug, which I discuss in the video, but I will post it on this game's post in the RPG Maker forums)

Hey there,  thanks for trying it out! I saw your post on the forum about the FPS uncapped issue and have also replied there.

Reposting here. I found someone already had a solution for the FPS uncapped issue, so I've added his plugin and released as v1.1.7.

Could you try downloading 1.1.7 and see if it works for you? Thanks!

Hey!

After my disasterous stream last time  looking at my  greasy face, and of course you kindness in patching the game, I  wanted to give it another go, so  I did. Here's my second stream of your game, this time with 90% less face. If you want to skip to the point when I play your game, check the time stamps.

Hey man, thanks for all the feedback on the general direction, WASD, options & fluid timestep!

I won't be doing a revamp for this game but these are good pointers if I ever create future games.

Um...

Excuse me, i know the game already completed, but this one thing in the game kinda bothers me, i don't know if it was a bug but it wont let me progress through the "cloven is searching for silicon material", i go in and out of rimecrest and cloven quest wont show up

Hey Memory, thanks for letting me know! Let me try to investigate the issue you've described; been a while for me, gonna refresh my memory

Hey! Got back after checking. So I'm assuming your main character is Lazarus, and you've just killed a boss monster (Shadow Curse Fox) in Karkala Slum.

In that case, Cloven's last message was he would deposit his Holocaust explosives at the equipment shop in Rimecrest and Oakenfort.

You should next proceed to the weapon shop in Rimecrest (bottom left, north of a fire hydrant) to collect the Holocaust as your reward. You can purchase more as well here on. With that, the quest is completed.

Let me know if that didn't work or isn't the issue you are facing.

woops, i'm sorry for my late reply

my problem is that the quest wont start, which is that cloven doesn't show up when i visit rimecrest to do the silicon quest

i haven't beat the boss monster because i'm stuck with trying to get to cloven first (the cutscene that start when you visit rimecrest for silicon quest)

and yes i played as lazarus (because i like hardcore and i know how to play :) ), and because i am bored that time, i beat all 5 sentinel for no reason before i did the capital quest (the third delivery quest)

oh and my opinion about this game is 4.8/5

thanks for the amazing game :)

Hey, no worries, thank you for your feedback and providing further details!

Ok I believe you have already visited the Destroyed Slum, talked to a guard who got upset & hit you. Since you mentioned you've already defeated the 5 sentinels, your characters probably did not go through much battles after that event. It may be a matter of simply going through a few more battles to trigger the next event.

To confirm this, go to any pub, talk to the informant, choose "Any latest news".

  • If he says "Nothing's up for now", the next step is to go encounter monsters another 20 times. You don't need to fight them, can escape all.
    • After 20 battle encounters, you should be able to get Cloven to show up in Rimecrest.
    • Reason is I originally designed the next main event to only trigger after your characters have grown or encountered sufficient monsters.
  • But if the informant is already saying "Cloven is searching for some silicon", or if that doesn't work...
    • I would then like to request you to send me your save files so I can find the root issue
    • To find these save files, go to your Willistoria Folder > save > select config.rpgsave, global.rpgsave, and fileXX.rpgsave (whichever save file you're stuck at)
    • Add these 3 files to an archive,  upload somewhere like Google Drive or Mediafire, share download link with me.

Thank you! I'd certainly like to ensure you can proceed with the game.

im sorry...

i tried the 20 encounter and it didn't work

i'm assuming the encounter means the overworld encounter and not inside an area encounter (because i did some leveling with the trap chest)

so here is the link containing the 3 file

let me know if i did it wrong

Thanks for all the support!

I found the root cause after testing from your save. Sorry it was my bad. I realized I forgot to change that event's trigger to "autorun". >_< Your conditions are correct.

I have released the fix as a new version v1.1.6.

  • First, resume your save game, exit out of Rimcrest and save your game in the World Map.
  • Download & unzip the new version, ideally in a new folder. Copy your "save" folder into the new version. Resume your game, re-enter Rimecrest, and Cloven should finally trigger.

Have fun!
